Born and raised in Hyderabad, India, Poonam Kaur was educated there as well, before the fashion design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in New Delhi. In 2006, after graduation, she signed for a film to be directed by Teja, who took off for unknown reasons. However, it has actually made an offer for another film Teja, Oka Vichitram.
